Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Poverty is a persistent challenge in many rural areas of Nigeria, including Jada Local Government Area (LGA) in Adamawa State. Despite various interventions, poverty remains widespread, with limited access to quality education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. In recent years, digital media has emerged as a tool with potential to alleviate poverty by providing platforms for education, awareness, and economic opportunities. Through mobile phones, social media, and online platforms, residents in Jada have gained access to vital information that can help them improve their livelihoods. Digital media facilitates the dissemination of agricultural advice, skill-building programs, job opportunities, and financial literacy. This study aims to explore the role of digital media in alleviating poverty in Jada LGA, focusing on how these platforms can enhance access to resources that improve economic well-being and reduce poverty in the region.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While digital media offers numerous opportunities for poverty alleviation, its full potential has not been harnessed in Jada Local Government Area. Many residents still face barriers such as limited internet access, low digital literacy, and lack of infrastructure. Furthermore, the impact of digital media in poverty reduction has not been sufficiently studied in this specific region. This study seeks to examine how digital media can be effectively utilized to alleviate poverty in Jada LGA, identifying the challenges and opportunities that digital platforms present for the local population.
